PostSubject: IRC Tutorial   Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:44 am

1. Download It
Download mIRC at http://www.mirc.com/get.html. It is a self-extracting cabinet; a small program that will unzip and install mIRC on your computer. You don't need any extra or 3rd party programs to install and setup mIRC, just follow the below instructions.

2. Install It
During the install procedure, mIRC's files will automatically be extracted as well as all necessary steps for starting mIRC will be taken. To start installing, just double-click the executable. Installation will start and guide you. It will ask you to agree with the licence agreement, like all applications and games do. Agree. Now you can choose where to install mIRC to on your hard disk. Anywhere will work, so put it wherever you can find it easily. Now it asks what to install: If you are new to mIRC and are installing it for the first time, choose to install EVERYTHING. If you are updating to a newer version, don't install the 'Settings File' (mirc.ini) or 'Scripts' (aliases.ini and popups.com) to keep your old settings. Now it asks if you (the user) wishes to add shortcuts (i.e. links to open the program). Click 'Install' and you're done! Just wait...wait...wait...DONE! and you can now use mIRC and connect to heserv.us.to or wherever you want!

3. Setting It Up
First, make sure you have internet connection. Now, run mIRC (by double clicking the shortcut either in Start --> Programs or on your desktop). mIRC will now start and show the 'mIRC Options' dialog and require you to fill in some information. On the left, you see a tree structure. You can click the [+] to expand and the [-] to shrink. The only real thing you must do now is fill in the blanks. Alternate is used if someone else is already using your primary nickname. Nicknames must be 1 to 9 character aliases. Now we need to change what we are seeing. Click the [+] next to Connect and click on Servers. Here you can do multiple things depending on where you want to connect to. I will use instructions for our home server.

4. Servers
Add any description you want that will tell you this is the [Evo] server. Next, put 'irc.wittebolx.com' in the IRC Server blank and leave all else as is. Now click 'Add' then double click on what is already selected. Should be what u put in for the Description. Now you are back in the first mIRC Options screen. Click 'Connect to server' and you should be in the right starting place. Now type '/join #darkforce1' or '/join #darkforce2' and you'll be there!

5. Using mIRC
All commands on mIRC are used in the format '/<recipient> <command> <data>' such as /msg nickserv register sos213 graviton007@gmail.com (the recipient is 'nickserv' and command is 'register' along with 'sos213' being the pass and 'graviton007@gmail.com' being the email of your new account). This command will register and bind you to the nickname you chose. Every time you connect to mIRC, do /msg nickserv identify <password> to be recognized as yourself. Anyway, to join a seperate or new channel or room, type /join <channel_name> (this has no recipient because it makes YOU act). All channels have the prefix of # such as #HighlyEvolved and no spaces. A space is recognized as the end of a set of data. You can see what channels already exist by doing '/list'. If you want to make your own, just do '/join <new_channel>' and you will be given operator status of it (similar to being a moderator). You can actually register the channel by doing '/msg chanserv register <channel_name> <password_for_administrating_it> <description> (you must be an @ or operator in the channel for it to work). You will now become an ~, A.K.A. Owner. Thats about all the commands you would want/need to use at this stage...just type '/help' for a list of commands.

Training camp DISBANDED! Hope you understood everything. Any questions on syntax or content, please post here or join #DarkForce1 or #DarkForce2 in irc.wittebolx.com! All questions are welcome.
